Goya champuru
A home-style stir-fry with bitter melon, tofu, and egg. Easy to order at diners; the bitterness is the trademark and stir-frying balances it.
Taco rice
A Tex-Mex-meets-Okinawa creation. Rice topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and seasoned beef. Filling.
Chinsuko
Okinawa's classic crisp cookies. Crisp texture, flavors include plain, brown sugar, beni-imo (purple sweet potato), and salt. Souvenir mainstay.
Awamori
Okinawan distilled spirit. Strong โ usually mixed with water or hot water. Choose a local label at a Kokusai-dori liquor store as a souvenir.
